History
Firthview Flock of four horn Jacobs was established in 2006 following a trip to the Jacob Sheep Society's Northern Region annual show and sale with six ewes from Muirhead, Leggate, and Dunmor flocks along with our first Stock Ram 'Dunmor Reliable' (127970).
Dunmor Reliable died half-way through tupping in 2007 so was replaced in 2008 with Cavers Ram (132066) renowned sire, Cavers Centurion, (117872).
2010/11 Season
In 2010/11, with the introduction of seven of our own home bred ewes to our slowly growing flock now
including ewes from Saughtree, Greenland and Hyndshaw flocks,
twenty-five ewes were sponged and put to three tups:
- Cavers Ram (132066)
- Firthview Atli 134840 (Sire, Dunmor Reliable (127970)
- Firthview Sorli 137363 (Sire Cavers Ram (132066))
A successful lambing has lead to an additional twenty-three lambs: ewe lambs and tup lambs;
The long-term aim is to increase the Jacob Flock to about forty breeding ewes, so the ewe lambs
are likely to be retained within the flock. We are anxiously watching our tup lambs as they grow, to
see if we have any potential champions.
Below are photographs of our current favourite at eight-weeks old.
2011/12 Season In 2011 we are looking forward to purchasing one or two more tups to run alongside our Cavers Ram (132066) in what is likely to be his last year with the Firthview Flock.
We will be attending both the Central Region Show and Sale (2nd August 2011); Worcester and Scottish Region Show and Sale (9th August 2011); St Boswells and are contemplating a trip to the Northern Region Show and Sale (3rd September 2011) at Skipton.
Our remote location means that once more, we will only be showing our best ewe and tup lambs at local shows: Canisbay and the Caithness County Show.
